 Research topics
  • General direction: Environmentally friendly combustion, heat transfer, and the power industry. Experimental work includes the development and application of laser-based measurement techniques for operation in furnaces, different methods of characterizing fuel, and new combustion technologies. The theoretical developments concern numerical flow simulation (computational fluid dynamics - CFD), combustion chemistry, and heat transfer problems. Most of the research and development are related to problems or improvements for the energy-producing industry and the steel and cement industries.
  • Mathematical models based on CFD: The task is to develop models that enable us to predict turbulent flows occurring during chemical reactions. The models are used in various industrial processes in the energy using and chemical industries.
  • Collection of data to validate mathematical models: performing experiments (laser-based and conventional measurement techniques) in order to verify the established mathematical models available with the most accurate data allowable.
  • MILD combustion: ``Moderate and Intense Low-oxygen Dilution'' (MILD) combustion is a new, revolutionary combustion technology that can greatly help to reduced fuel consumption and pollutant emissions. To study this process, experimental and theoretical investigations are carried out.
