IEVB's research assistant, Hao Wang, was recently awarded the Larry Kaufman Scholarship by the organizing committee of the CALPHAD Conference. The Larry Kaufman Scholarship is named after one of the founders of CALPHAD and will sponsor Mr. Wang, one of the twenty students chosen, to attend this year's conference from June 25 to June 30 at MIT in Boston, USA.
Wang has been working at IEVB since November under the guidance of Prof. Michael Fischlschweiger, in the field of computational thermodynamics. His research focuses on phase field modeling, and his conference presentation, "Investigation of solidification of the Li2O-SiO2 system based on CALPHAD-informed phase field modeling," will explore the formation and growth of Li2O crystals during the solidification process, which further allows the tailoring of Li-Ion battery recycling processes.
