Jana Zimmermann Wins Award
Jana Zimmermann is being honored for her presentation, “Coupled Thermodynamic and Micromechanical Modeling of Heterogeneous Residual Stress Distribution in Gas-Polymer Systems,” at the 2022 Thermodynamics Colloquium.
Every year, thermodynamics researchers from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland come together to discuss new insights and research findings in the fields of process engineering, modeling of material systems and processes, interfacial phenomena, and energy technology. The Thermodynamics Colloquium is one of the most important conferences on thermodynamics in the German-speaking world. At the event, Jana Zimmermann was awarded the prize for the best presentation by a scientific jury.
Jana Zimmermann has been working at the Institute for Energy Process Engineering and Fuel Technology in the Department of Technical Thermodynamics and Energy-Efficient Materials Processing since 2020. After completing her master’s degree in chemical engineering with a specialization in energy at Clausthal University of Technology, it was clear to her that she wanted to conduct research on fundamental thermodynamic questions, particularly in the context of physical plastics recycling. Since then, Ms. Zimmermann has been conducting research together with Prof. Fischlschweiger in the field of gas solubility in polymers, taking structure-property relationships into account, as well as on the molecular-thermodynamic modeling of the behavior of gas-polymer mixtures. Ms. Zimmermann’s research is generating new fundamental insights into gas-polymer interactions that are relevant for the development of new gas storage technologies and membrane development
