Michael Olbricht Appointed University Professor
Prof. Michael Olbricht has been appointed university professor of “Sustainable Thermal Energy Supply” at Clausthal University of Technology. He will head the department starting October 1 at the Institute for Energy Process Engineering and Fuel Technology (IEVB).
Michael Olbricht studied mechanical engineering at Leibniz University Hannover, specializing in energy and process engineering. He then worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Chemical and Thermal Process Engineering at the Technical University of Braunschweig. He completed his Ph.D. in 2017 at the University of Kassel in the field of technical thermodynamics (dissertation title: “Influence of Heat and Mass Transfer in the Thermal Compressor on the System Behavior of Absorption Refrigeration Machines”).
He gained industry experience as a process engineering engineer in the Research & Development department at Arvos Schmidtsche Schack GmbH and joined Wintershall Dea AG (Carbon Management and Hydrogen division) in 2021. Since April 2023, Michael Olbricht has been a professor of process simulation and process design at the University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt.
The process engineer, originally from Franconia, is now joining Clausthal University of Technology, where he is no stranger. Since 2019, he has held a teaching position at the university in the Harz region, instructing the course “Fundamentals of Refrigeration and Heat Pump Technology” at the IEVB. In his research, the native of Lower Saxony focuses, among other things, on largely CO2-neutral hydrogen production via methane pyrolysis. In this work, he also focuses on technology transfer and the scale-up of the reactor from the laboratory scale to a pilot plant.
