Stack Revolution

Project Description:

The goal of the “StaR” collaborative project is to reduce the manufacturing costs of alkaline electrolyzers to a level significantly below current market forecasts for 2030 by developing a production-optimized stack design. A key aspect of achieving this goal is the selection of materials, as well as cell and stack design. Through experimental characterization at the material, cell, and stack levels, we lay the groundwork for selecting suitable concepts and evaluate the success of the current stage of development. Using the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) method, we analyze and quantify the potential environmental impacts, as well as the CO2 reduction potential and resource efficiencies of the newly developed stacks for water electrolysis within the scope of the project.
