Project Description:

Joint Research for a Climate-Neutral Future: The transformation of our energy system is a collective effort that requires ideas and innovations from the scientific community. These arise primarily through close collaboration and intensive exchange between different fields of research. To this end, TEN.efzn is significantly expanding interdisciplinary, cross-site energy research in Lower Saxony.

Organized into six closely interlinked research platforms, the program brings together the key strengths of Lower Saxony’s energy research and also opens up new, innovative fields of research. The research platforms are linked through a novel transfer system that promotes exchange between academia, industry, politics, and civil society, and supports the practical application of research findings, the training of skilled workers, and the development of innovations and startups. The overarching goal of TEN.efzn is the strategic advancement and repositioning of Lower Saxony’s energy research by 2030.

The State Graduate College on Hydrogen and the Hydrogen Derivative Ammonia aims to address economic, ecological, systemic, safety-related, and societal issues throughout the entire life cycle of the hydrogen derivative ammonia —from synthesis through utilization to hydrogen recovery—to provide insights into economic, environmental, systemic, safety-related, and societal issues, as well as to identify its advantages and disadvantages compared to other hydrogen derivatives.

In our subproject “Life Cycle Assessment,” we investigate the integrated economic and environmental impacts of ammonia in sustainable energy systems using life cycle assessment.
